Yes, you can sell your own home in WA and advertise it on realestate.com.au. A licensed agency or private-sale service has to publish the sale listing for you through its subscription. You cannot buy a one-off listing directly as a private owner, but you can still answer enquiries, run the home opens and negotiate the sale yourself.
REA's advertising rules require a registered Australian real estate licence and a subscription for established residential advertising, and say one-off listings are not supported. Its direct private-landlord option is for rentals. It is not a private home-sale package.
Who puts your listing online?
The private-sale service has the account that gets your home onto the portal. You give it the property details and buy the support you need. An agency name on the advertisement does not, by itself, mean someone will turn up to run your home open.
You can pay someone to publish the listing, or pay an agent to run the sale. Start with how much work you want to take on, then compare prices. Our private-selling guide covers the full WA process; this page focuses on getting the listing online.
What does it cost?
These are advertised examples checked on 23 October 2026, not a market-wide price range or a quote for your address:
Sources: For Sale By Owner packages, PropertyNow pricing and KeyHive Guided inclusions. The large photo board is extra on the listed For Sale By Owner packages. PropertyNow publishes different prices on its homepage and help pages, so check the price you are asked to pay. We have not completed a checkout or obtained an address-specific quote.
If you already have photos and are happy to organise everything, a basic listing package may be enough. With a more expensive package, ask what extra work you are buying. Photos, help with an offer and contract preparation are different services from putting an advertisement online.

Which option fits the work you want to do?
If you have photos and want to organise the sale yourself, compare listing services by portal tier, duration and the extras you need.
If you want to handle buyers and inspections but need the campaign launched and help with the contract, look at KeyHive Guided.
If you want an agent to run the home opens, follow up buyers and negotiate, compare Modern Agent with other agency quotes. Our fixed-fee and commission comparison shows how to compare the totals.
If you only need a property page to share through your own networks, KeyHive Free publishes on KeyHive only. It does not include REA or Domain advertising.
Ask these questions before buying a listing
- Which portals are included for my WA address, and what is the exact listing product on each?
- How long does the listing run, and what do renewal, withdrawal or relisting cost?
- Are professional photos, a floorplan and a sign supplied, or am I only buying space to upload them?
- Do enquiries come directly to me? Who answers missed calls and follows up buyers?
- Who can change the price, photos and inspection times, and how quickly are updates published?
- Does the price include GST, upgrades, contract preparation and any success fee?
Ask for the advertising tier by name and find out what happens when a promotion ends. Two homes can appear on the same website with quite different advertising behind them. You are buying exposure, with no guarantee of a buyer, a sale price or a permanent search position. Our advertising-cost guide explains the wider campaign budget.
Getting from a listing to a sale
Before the listing goes live, get your photos and property details ready, set the asking price and decide who will prepare the contract. If you have already signed with an agent, check that agreement before buying another service. You may still owe the first agent a fee.
If you want to manage the buyers with campaign and contract support, compare Guided inclusions. If you want a free property page to share through your own networks, KeyHive Free is a separate option with no REA or Domain listing. Budget separately for your settlement agent whichever route you choose.
What happened with our Waikiki and Byford sellers
At 10 Burnside Way, Waikiki and 24 McLachlan Turn, Byford, the owners had spent weeks on basic FSBO listings without an offer. We changed the presentation, launched their Guided campaigns and supported them through buyer conversations. Both received offers after switching to Guided.
We changed several things together, so those sales cannot tell us what the portal upgrade achieved on its own. For these owners, we worked on the photos and buyer conversations as well as the advertisement. Ask what help you would get with those parts of the sale. There is more detail in our FSBO and Guided comparison; these are individual campaigns, not a promise of the same result.
FAQ
Private portal-listing questions
Can I list my own house on realestate.com.au?
You cannot directly purchase a one-off established residential sale listing as a private owner. You can use a licensed private-sale service to publish the listing while you manage buyers, or appoint an agency to handle more of the sale.
Can I advertise on realestate.com.au for free?
The residential sale pathways described here are paid services. KeyHive Free publishes on keyhive.com.au only; it does not include realestate.com.au, Domain or REIWA advertising.
Can a private-sale service put my home on Domain too?
Yes. For Sale By Owner's published residential packages include realestate.com.au and Domain. Confirm each provider's portal list, package term and upgrades before paying; portal access is not the same across every service.
Is the listing fee the total cost of selling?
No. Check photography, signage, portal upgrades, contract preparation and settlement separately. A service that forwards enquiries usually leaves you responsible for inspections and negotiation.
